Building the future of Web3: Interview with Avery Ching, CTO of Aptos
On the Crypto OGs show, Andres Meneses interviewed Eric Chin, CTO of Aptos, to explore the vision and technological advancements that position this blockchain platform as one of the leaders in the Web3 ecosystem. During the talk, Eric shared his experience at Meta and how that technical foundation drove his work at Aptos, highlighting his focus on the scalability and accessibility of blockchain technology.
Prior to joining Aptos, Eric worked for over a decade at Meta, where he led the creation of infrastructures capable of supporting many users. He was one of the key engineers on the LibraDM project, an initiative aimed at developing a scalable blockchain for global payments. In this experience, Eric and his team addressed the main challenges of existing blockchain networks, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, by redesigning fundamental concepts such as consensus, parallel execution and system architecture.
With Aptos, Eric has continued that innovative trajectory. According to him, the goal is to bring blockchain technology to massive scale with minimal fees, almost imperceptible latency and an infrastructure that can support high-performance applications.
Aptos is distinguished by its focus on user experience and accessibility. Eric highlighted key tools such as Aptos Connect and Aptos Keyless, which simplify blockchain adoption by enabling logins similar to Google or Facebook, removing barriers such as private key management or mnemonic phrases.
Another highlight is the network’s ability to handle massive transaction loads without impacting performance. One example cited was the TaposCat application, which processed 326 million transactions in a single day, demonstrating the robustness and scalability of Aptos.
In addition, Aptos implements transactions without gas costs, a feature Eric described as critical to attracting new users to the Web3 ecosystem.
Eric also explained how Aptos remains agile in such a dynamic environment as cryptocurrencies. The platform uses a process called AIP (Aptos Improvement Proposal), inspired by Ethereum’s proposal system, which allows developers to suggest improvements and updates. This modular design facilitates rapid changes to the software, adapting to the needs of the technical community.
According to Eric, collaboration with developers is a priority. This results in new features being added within a few months, reinforcing Aptos’ position as a flexible and constantly evolving environment.
Beyond the technical aspects, Eric emphasized the potential of blockchain to transform digital interaction. By enabling users to have more control over their resources and trustless transactions, Aptos seeks to advance society towards a more inclusive and transparent digital age.
The interview concluded with a personal touch, when Eric shared how his Hawaiian roots influence his perspective and leadership, maintaining a balance between technological innovation and human connection.
In addition, Aptos implements transactions without gas costs, a feature Eric described as critical to attracting new users to the Web3 ecosystem.

NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
The week of the ATH
This past week Bitcoin has achieved historical records on a frequent basis. In fact, last November 13 it touched figures above $93,000.
It is important to note that these all-time highs occurred in a context of positive expectations about the future of the cryptocurrency, particularly due to the elections in the United States, where Donald Trump won as the next president. And with that, there are strong expectations about the creation of a Bitcoin fund and the possible institutional adoption of this cryptocurrency.
Bitcoin supporter Matt Gaetz to be nominated as U.S. attorney general
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump nominated Representative Matt Gaetz for Attorney General on November 13, prompting Gaetz to announce his resignation to Congress.
Gaetz’s nomination for U.S. Attorney General would signal a possible shift in the Justice Department’s stance on cryptocurrencies, innovation and regulatory policies.
Gaetz had introduced a bill on June 25 that would require the Internal Revenue Service to accept bitcoin payments from Americans filing federal income taxes.
